Custom Color, Intuitive Haircuts, Natural Microblading

I first worked at a salon in New Zealand when I was in high school, just making coffee and doing shampoos. Took an apprenticeship at Cha Cha when I was on hiatus from university, and never left. I’ve continued to seek out education whenever possible, including traveling out to Bumble and Bumble, training with American Crew and Deva Curl, and color classes with Davines and Wella. I more recently trained to become a microblading technician at the Advanced Permanent Cosmetics Academy, when I realized what a significant emotional improvement natural looking brows made in a person’s daily life.

I love color! Highlighting, balayage, blonding of all sorts. I also like to provide effortless cuts that suit a guest’s hair type when at all possible. I’m in love with texture! Wild, shaggy hair from the 60s, 70s and 80s, anything remotely resembling a mullet, pixies, bangs, the more rock and roll, and less effort, the better.

My prices are inclusively based on the service, not gender.  LGBTQIA welcoming.

I thought about doing hair from a young age and learned to cut hair at Cha Cha because of one of my best friends and lovely co-workers got me in the door about 15 years ago. Cutting hair gives me a creative outlet and I really enjoy talking with people. Sorry, we are going to talk.

I like doing short, men’s classic and modern style. Things I love (other than hair) are bikes, playing music, beer, and painting. My biggest inspirations are sweet jams, great friends, good times and people around me who are enjoying life, creating, and having success.

I leave you with this inspiring quote…”Seven day weekend, up all night, in at the deep end, hang on tight, won’t take a minute, it won’t take long, so get on it, come on, c’mon, c’mon. Let’s get, let’s get, let’s get, let’s get ROCKED” – Def Leppard

I’m a stylist, and a creative. When I’m not cutting and coloring peoples’ hair I love tufting rugs, bags, and bucket hats. My space is inclusive to everyone! I got into the beauty and hair industry to change the perspective that can often be exclusive, heteronormative, and put people into boxes. There are no rules anymore! I’m always continuing my education with classes on new trends and better ways to make your hair look and feel the best. I’m certified in Surface hair cutting which is a similar take on a Deva Curl curly haircut method, but integrates some new techniques. I love cutting curly hair, as I have curly hair myself and always got the worst haircuts growing up, so I know how it feels to not love your curly cut. I’ve used 5 different color lines so far in my career to help me better understand color theory, so if you’ve got a color correction I’m ready to tackle it! My favorite service is blonding. I love making people blonde and I love highlighting and balayaging. I look forward to meeting you!

I grew up in Hong Kong and New Zealand and came to the United States at age 19 to “go to college”, as my parent’s thought. In my mind I came to pursue skateboarding. While here I discovered a new interest – hair cutting, and hair cutting only. The scissors and the comb and the clips are cool, fun to do, very skillful.

About 5 years in, I found Vidal Sassoon, a cutting method that made sense to me. The Sassoon technique was one of the first of its kind to be developed. I started by taking classes and my mind was blown. At that point I gave up being a stylist to become an apprentice all over again. Eventually I became a Sassoon stylist and continued to sharpen my skill set to become an educator. The technique allowed me to understand the geometry and science behind creating a haircut, while treating the hair as a fabric of sorts. Using these techniques I control or release wanted or unwanted movement. I look for balance, movement, and shape.

To all hair cutters, I love to share technique and knowledge. Come for a haircut and we can chat about cutting all day long.

I like to find ways to look good through attitude, color, hair and clothing. The art of a look comes from facial features, body structure, personality, and personal vibe. Whether that be through wearing classic, contemporary, or creative hairstyles. It’s a passion to help create and maintain one’s personal style.

My career philosophy is to work to the best of my ability. I like to have a thorough consultation, create a geometric cutting plan, deliver a precision cut, simple blow/air dry, and refine the final product.  The haircut will be wash and wear anywhere for the next 4-24 weeks.

I will cut your hair as if it is my own so that you will feel confident and happy with your look.

The past 27 years as HBIC at Cha Cha Beauty & Barber have been nothing short of absolutely fabulous – a wild, and wonderful ride! Colleagues have become family, and clients friends. I am sincerely grateful for their support and loyalty during the first decade downtown on Mifflin St., the second decade on upper Willy St., and the past 6 years at our current location on the corner of Baldwin.

It’s time to put away the shears, hang up the apron, and pass the Cha Cha torch to my long time colleagues and family Gen and Brandon. Having these two carry on the Cha Cha legacy is an absolute honor!

Thank you everyone for your trust and love over the years. I’ll see you around and at all the future Cha Cha events!

Cheers!!
